Brighton
Hey all,
It's been so hot here in the last week or so, heading to the beach was an absolute must before I start work nest week. After the debacle that was Wednesday, we had a bit of luck swing our way with the train strike being cancelled. The train to Brighton only took about an hour, so we got there around 11am. The walk to the beach is pretty short too, it's about a 10-15 minutes. And yeah, there's a Walkabout right near the ocean (just for the Aussie's, those pubs are everywhere!).
The beach itself isn't that bad (heh.. the English reckon it's heaven), as I'd heard various stories from Aussies basically writing it off. The rocks are fairly large in some parts, but small enough in others that walking on them is almost therapeutic. They also heat up nicely so after you swim you can lie on them and warm up quickly. The water isn't freezing, but it isn't exactly warm either. It's kind of like Trigg when summer just starts, so the weather is warm, but the water is cold.

We also walked around the pier with it's amusement arcades, rides, pubs etc. Of course a pint or two was required just to get things started while we waited for the cloud cover to burn off. Within the next hour though, the sun was out in full and we headed down to the beach 'proper'. Fish and Chips were consumed on the way.

So yeah... swimming is AWESOME! I can't believe how good it was to be totally submerged in water again and to actually do a decent amount of freestyle (I swam out to a buoy and back). While I did get cold fairly quickly, it's easy to get out, warm up on the hot rocks and then head back in again for a dip.

Had a great time, got pretty burnt, but it was worth it. We headed home about 7pm to make sure we had time to get back to London to meet some people at the pub. All in all, super day! Today it's hot, muggy and raining, so yesterday was definitely a good choice.
